Hard work bonus

ANOTHER Clarence Valley business has shown we can mix it on the national stage with anyone.

Home Hardware Maclean has just been named NSW Home Hardware Store of the Year - for the second time in four years - out of 75 Home Hardware stores across the State.

Director Nick Clark said he and his business partners - wife Lyneice and Glenn and Eileen Essex - only opened their Home Hardware store in 2004.

The following year, they won their first Store of the Year award, and now after just five years in the business, are celebrating their second win.

“We were shocked, but happy as Larry to get this. We didn't expect to win,” Mr Clark said.

“I've been told in the past that it's hard to win this award.

“It was a shock the first time, but a bigger shock the second.”

Mr Clark said the award was judged on a number of factors including sales growth and activity within the group.

He said it was also judged on the store's level of customer service and involvement in the local community.

“I think what got us over the line was our high level of customer focus,” he said.

“We've also been active within the group to help other Home Hardware stores succeed.”
