Harwood extend lead atop ladder with convincing win

CRICKET: Despite a valiant half century from GDSC Easts experienced opener Andrew Latham, the side was no match for the might of Harwood's nine-string bowling attack at Lower Fisher Park.

Latham was the fourth Easts' wicket to fall on 54 kicking off a major batting collapse in which the side lost 7-31 to end up all-out for 152 falling well short of Harwood's dominate 326.

In what was a match to remember for Ben McMahon after bludgeoning a quickfire 115 in the first innings, the medium-pacer was at his miserly best in the middle overs of Easts innings.

McMahon managed to snare the all-important wicket of Easts captain Ben Hill (31) breaking a 65-run second wicket stand between Hill and Latham before skittling young gun Jackson Grieve for 2.

It was a supreme spell of stump-to-stump bowling from McMahon which saw him take two for 10 off eight overs as he built pressure on the Easts' innings.

Ben was not the only McMahon getting in on the action with younger brother Jacob tearing the lower order in shreds with his ripping legbreaks.

In a rare feat Jacob had all his victims out for duck eggs as he took three wickets for 17 runs off his five over spell including three maidens.

Harwood used nine bowlers through the innings with Ben McMahon and spinner Matt Young (3 for 26 off 8) the pick of the attack.
