Harwood lads go undefeated

HARWOOD's under-14 team capped a sensational season with victory over Yamba in the grand final at picturesque Harwood Oval.

After going through the season undefeated, securing the minor premiership and the major semi-final, the Harwood boys were very keen to continue their good form.

Yamba won the toss and elected to bat on the Saturday. Tiffany Hodson and Sam Pavolich started steadily before Ben McMahon broke the partnership ,bowling Pavolich.

Yamba's innings didn't gather much momentum, as they were unable to put together enough partnerships.

Hodson batted well at the top of the order and Connor Young (13) and Scott Campbell (8) worked hard in the middle order.

However, Yamba only managed to be 9/75 at the end of their 40 overs. Ben McMahon 2/8, Liam Johnson 2/11 and Liam Martin 3/6 did the damage for Harwood.

Harwood passed the Yamba total for the loss of just one wicket, with Ryan Johnson 21, Liam Johnson 17 and Ben McMahon 32 batting very well.

At 1/83 and with 12 overs left to bat, Harwood went to score quickly, but found the accurate bowling from Yamba's under-12 player, Alex Moffitt, hard to dispatch.

Moffitt finished with 5/11 from five overs and Harwood were all out for 108. Yamba then went for quick runs in the hope of a miraculous outright win, but it was to no avail, as they were dismissed for 59. Liam Johnson, with two wickets and Brett Emanuel three wickets, did the damage.

Connor Young hit out bravely for his 17 runs. Harwood were then left with 26 runs needed for an outright win and at stumps were 1/16 with Liam Johnson 12 and Ben McMahon one - the not out batsmen.
