LCCA: After a rain-affected first round of the LCCA cricket competition, teams are keen to see blue skies today to get a full game under their belts.
After scoring an unbeaten 21 last week before rain called a halt to their match Harwood captain Dane Mitchell will be looking to score more when his team host Iluka today.
"We got 15 overs in before the rain hit and we had to call the game off,” Mitchell said.
"We got a few runs, and Maclean United bowled well which was making things difficult with the bat so we were probably pretty even. I think it would have been a good contest if it didn't rain, so that was a bit disappointing.”
Iluka's first round clash against Wanderers was also washed out last week, but in 35 overs they managed to reach 8/157, lead by a half-century from Jason Allen and 46 from Dean Bartlett.
"Iluka are a good strong side this year, and they played well last week so I'm sure they'll be back strong again this week,” Mitchell said.
"This game could go either way but I think we will play well. The boys will be keen to play after getting washed out last week.
"At this level of cricket if we're going to win we will need to take our catches. Generally whoever fields the best probably holds the key.
"We've got a few young blokes ready to play this weekend so it will be good for them to have a run.”
Among the young stars Harwood boasts in their line-up is Peter Timms, and Mitchell said he expected Timms to contribute with the bat and ball.
