Harwood wrap up minor premiership with outright win

HARWOOD v BROTHERS: With more than 10 players from the Brothers outfit that took the field last week out of action at teammate Billy Weatherstone's wedding, chasing Harwood's total of 8 for 247 was always going to be a tough ask at McKittrick Park.

The Brothers side was well supported by promoted second grade players in Sam Howard, Trent Hassan and Durand Hartz, and even featured the return of John Kroehnert, who had not strapped the pads on in the CRCA since December 2012.

Though they had support from the lower grades, these players were only making up the numbers and it did not take long before the Premier League favourites, Harwood, put the weakened outfit to the sword.

Jake Kroehnert, Andy Kinnane and Ben Jurd managed to bat early in the first innings before leaving for the event and mounted an early fight against Harwood's opening bowlers before Daley Durrant (3 for 16 off 7) snared the breakthrough and began the rot down the innings.

Troy McLaren (31) played an anchor's role in the middle overs and added 32 runs with Corey Bertalli (16), but the bowling attack smelt blood and their spinners soon closed out the innings.

With only six batsmen left in the sheds, Harwood were soon chasing an outright and with the strict bowling of young Cooper Many (2 for 14 off 4) it proved to be a rather academic result.

Lachlan Johnson wrapped the outright up, getting McLaren last out in over 11.
