HE HAD no idea, but baby Harrison was born a winner.

Just 45 minutes before the Jacaranda Queen crowning, proud mummy Jess Swain welcomed her boy into the world at Grafton Base Hospital.

Organisers of the Jaca Baby contest Cheryl Barnes and Kay Paine hopped up to the hospital as soon as they could to present mum and bub with a photo frame as a prize.

"Kay and I have been organising it for a few years now," Mrs Barned said.

"We just love looking at the babies - I'd love to see what some of the past ones look like now."

Mrs Barnes herself was born during Jacaranda time and she will celebrate her birthday today by attending the Picnic in the Park.
