Help needed for music event

VOLUNTEERS are urgently needed to help out at a prestigious music convention being held in Grafton in April.

Organiser Melissa Philp said the four-day Easter convention had attracted top international musicians, and their guidance would greatly benefit young musicians in the region.

The musicians would hold workshops, masterclasses and lectures, providing an amazing opportunity that regional students would otherwise miss out on.

Visiting musicians include George Torbay from television show Battle of the Choir; flautist Janet Webb; trumpeter Greg Spence; violinist Brendan Joyce; jazz musician Andy Firth; UK conductor Mark Eager, and performance specialist Dr Peter Hubbard.

Burgeoning musicians from throughout the Northern Rivers are booked to attend the April 10-13 convention, with scholarships available in each geographical area for disadvantaged students.

The convention will be open to singers and wind, brass and string players.

Ms Philp said the only problem was that more volunteers were needed to donate some of their time to help at the event.

Grafton families are also being asked to support the young musicians by providing a home to an out-of-town student for the convention.

Anyone wanting to attend the convention, help by billeting or volunteering, or apply for a scholarship, can contact Melissa Philp at melphilp@bigpond.net.au or on 0418 458 293.
