Henley chases Ramornie dream with Hotel Drive
RACING: The fledgling Scott Henley stable has never been in better condition ahead of what the local trainer hopes will be a formidable showing at the 2016 July Racing Carnival.
Champion gelding Hotel Drive returned from a 15-week spell in an impressive 1000m trial run at Grafton on May 10.
Leading from the front and sitting about eight off from the rail Henley's experienced runner blitzed the competition in the straight to win by 9.8 lengths.
It was a warning shot fired by the four-year-old gelding who finished its last preparations with three consecutive victories.
"He has started this preparation even better than he finished the last," Henley said.
"We're hoping to get into the Ramornie, and if he happens to finish in the Ramornie that will be out of this world."
Henley also has newcomer Cyclone, who has flourished under the trainer and is set for his own cup tilt in the carnival.
"In a smaller boutique stable, the horse is striving, we'll target the South Grafton Cup," Henley said.
