Hey Clarence parents, get your kids hooked on this!

IT IS not often a politician encourages children to "get hooked", but Clarence Nationals MP Chris Gulaptis is making an exception in urging his younger constituents to sign up for this year's 'Get Hooked…it's fun to fish" recreational fishing program.

"Fishing is a big part of the history and culture of the Clarence and Richmond valleys," Mr Gulaptis said.

"Fishing gives you time to think and fishing sometimes provides a free meal, although not that often in my case.

"If you already take your kids fishing, the last thing you need is advice from the Government, but this really good program is designed for kids who have no experience of fishing."

Elements of the program include a 'fun resource kit,' DVD and comprehensive teachers manual for educators, as well as the assistance of enthusiastic volunteers and workshops, to take children on a fun, fishing journey.

The program follows the marine mascots Snappy and Squirt, as they venture into learning about sustaining quality aquatic habitats by practicing safe and responsible fishing.

The program is designed to teach students show to fish responsibly as well as to be mindful of the environment and aquatic habitats.
