Boat rage hits a Minnie Water resident

THE quiet and calm of a deep sea fishing expedition was apparently shattered for one Minnie Water resident on Sunday morning when his vessel was deliberately rammed by another boat.

Police said yesterday they were unable to confirm all details of the incident because there were no other witnesses, but they did respond to an incident at Minnie Water.

The Police media unit said there were reports two runabouts - one aluminium, the other fibreglass - were on a fishing expedition about four nautical miles offshore when the aluminium vessel rammed the fibreglass vessel.

Police were told the aluminium vessel rammed the other vessel a second time and the fibreglass vessel was holed.

The skipper of the fibreglass boat radioed the Wooli VMA saying it was taking on water.

The VMA then contacted Grafton Police. Water Police and NSW Maritime were also contacted.

Both vessels made it back to Minnie Water bay without assistance, but police have been told a fight between the two boat owners then broke out on the beach.

It is understood both skippers live in the same Minnie Water street.

Because of the lack of witnesses it is unlikely charges will be laid.

NSW Maritime confirmed yesterday it was helping police with inquiries.)
