'Highway funds slashed under Abbott government'

INVESTMENT in the Pacific Hwy has been slashed since the Abbott government was elected, shadow minister for infrastructure Anthony Albanese says.

Mr Albanese was in the Northern Rivers yesterday to inspect the progress of the Tintenbar to Ewingsdale highway stretch.

"In 12 years under the Howard government, just $1.3 billion was spent on the Pacific Hwy compared to $7.6 billion over six years under Labor," Mr Albanese said.

"And now that the Coalition are back in charge federally, the investment has dropped. In 2013, our last budget, there was $1.023 billion for the Pacific Hwy."
