Hobbies are Madaz

THE smell of rubber burning and V8s churning spells a perfect day for an Ipswich truckie called Kimber.

He runs the Madaz Burnout competitions at Queensland Raceway and competes in state competitions with his car Vicious.

"I was always in the car game, the drags then the burnouts," he said.

"I was drag racing a while and started skids; I love it too much and prefer burnouts."

Kimber said he started the Madaz Burnouts to get kids off the streets, into a safer environment for burnouts.

At the last meeting he had 85 entrants and 720 spectators with people from up and down the eastern seaboard attending.

When he's not organising burnout meets or competing he runs Kimber's Haulage, operating a Kenworth tipper and has been driving trucks since he joined the Army at 16.

After that he did some interstate work before buying his own tilt tray and then took permanent tipper work which allowed him to stay close to his family - wife Michelle and two boys Jake, 16 and Trent, 12.

What makes a good burnout? Instant and constant smoke, driver control, engine performance, crowd response and "tyre fires are good".

The next competition is on August 17, for details see Kimber's Haulage on Facebook.
