Soup, not fava beans, in Hollywood star's lunch
HANNIBAL Lecter may like to have friends for dinner, but the Welsh actor who plays him prefers the soup.
Sir Anthony Hopkins was travelling incognito when he popped in for lunch at 2Be Nourished in Grafton with his wife and friends on Tuesday, possibly on his way back to the Gold Coast where he is currently shooting Thor: Ragnarok with Chris Hemsworth.
A few astute locals however, including the 2Be Nourished staff, worked out they were hosting a member of acting royalty.
Cafe owner Chrissy Hancock said she and her staff members were thinking about naming a smoothie after the actor following the close brush with fame, but tried to rein in their excitement while he was in the store.
"We wanted him to feel comfortable," she said.
"He had a few other gentleman and his wife with him. His wife was adorable and sung high praise of our place, saying it reminded her of being back in LA.
"They were just in love with the fact everything was health conscious and impressed with the beautiful store."
Ms Hancock added that the 78-year-old and his entourage were not disturbed as they dined on soup, salads and smoothies, and blended in with the crowd.
"We were quite busy at the time, which was great," she said.
"The shop was full and I'm pretty sure everyone else was oblivious. They weren't disturbed."
Not wanting to break their peace, Ms Hancock resisted the urge to ask them what they were doing in Grafton.
"We overhead them discussing Broadbeach. so we assumed they were heading north," she said.
"We could have, maybe should have, asked the question but I didn't want to be rude and intimidating. But he did get our special treatment, which every customer gets."
The Daily Examiner reader Leah Bancroft was one person who cottoned on to his identity straight away, snapping a paparazzi-style shot of the actor outside the Good Price Pharmacy on Prince St as she drove past in her car.
On Facebook, a number of people said they also saw him but thought he was just a look-alike. Others were still not convinced.
Hayley Maguire: "Oh my god! Imagine if it was him. It does look like him, but I'm not too sure what he would be doing in Grafton haha."
Neither are we, but we're not complaining.
