Home needed for Jaca crown

WITH the first of Grafton's Jacaranda blooms beginning to peek through, the iconic Jacaranda Festival Crown will be placed on Grafton's Clocktower in Prince St this week.

Tomorrow at 6.30am, early risers will see the combined efforts of local businesses, Clarence Valley Council, Essential Energy, Wicks and Parker and electrician, Bruce Henderson as they put the crown in place for this year's Jacaranda Festival, which starts at the end of October.

The Jacaranda Festival Committee is seeking a new storage facility for the crown when it comes down at the end of this year's festival. Essential Energy, which has stored the crown for the past few years, is no longer able to provide covered space.

Fearing the recently refurbished crown will deteriorate in the open elements, the Jacaranda Festival Committee would like to hear from any business or individual who can offer a weatherproof home for the 3.7m tall crown.

Contact the festival office on 6642 3959 if you are able to help.
