Clarence Valley people reach out to homeless man

THE Clarence Valley community has reached out to a homeless man after someone posted his story on the Clarence Valley Buy, Swap and Sell Facebook page.

People have offered clothes food and shelter for Owen Smith who Facebook commenters say is living in his car with his dogs while he looks for work.

Mel Watters has even started a fundraiser page on My Cause, let's get Owen a home.

The My Cause page reads: Owen has been living in his car on the side of a busy road. He is 72 and up until 2 nights ago had 2 dogs plus 4 puppies which sleep in the car with him. 2 nights ago one of Owens dogs slipped it's chain and got run over. He says he's waiting on a job offer from his friend to come through. He is very proud and does not want to ask for help, he wants to work and says he has a farming background. He has had offers of places to stay but I would really like to get him his own caravan so he can keep some independence."

Here is what some of the Facebook comment have said:

Bianca Cosgrove:  I took a bag of food, people food and dog biscuits, to the guy parked at the abs this afternoon. He seems to be doing it tough so if anyone has anything to spare, please take it to him and his fur babies, I'm sure he'd appreciate the help. Even if u could take a coffee (2 sugars I think) and give him a bit of company, I'm sure it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your kindness x

Amanda Lenz: Oh is he still there? Poor bugger must be freezing his a$$ off

Tahlia Maddox-Stevens: Are you talking about thd red car parked at the abotuars?
