Hunt on for new season umpires

THE countdown to the new season is in the final stages with the competition to commence Saturday.

The junior girls will start the program at 9am with the first women’s games to hit off at 12.20pm.

There are 14 teams in the Primary Girls competition and 43 teams in the women’s competition so it certainly looks as though 2011 is going to be another great season.

The first instalments of club fees were distributed at the meeting on Tuesday night and they are due by April 9. Clubs are charged $350 per senior team nominated, $250 for under-18 teams and $80 for under-nine teams. Fees are to be payed to Peg James.

With the season getting underway, Vickie Munns is busily organising umpires for the season.

Each team is expected to supply two umpires – one of whom is expected to be a player.

Vickie would like to hear from anyone keen to umpire A-grade women’s matches and those wanting to learn to do the A grade Tech Bench. There will be a TB refresher/learner session held within the next couple of weeks.

If you wish to know more about Tech Bench prior to committing, please speak to Vickie.

Cheryl Kinnane has been teaching our junior learner umpires for Primary Grade for many years. This year she has nine learners but only two assistants and urgently requires more helpers to assist on Saturday mornings.

If you can do one time slot per morning, or even if you can only assist sometimes, please contact Cheryl on 6642 5157 to help with this very important feeder structure for our senior competition. The girls are taught rules and techniques each week leading up to the competition so they are fully prepared and they just need some guidance to help them on their way.

Anyone wanting umpire shirts please let Vickie know as we are about to place an order.

We are still on the lookout for someone to co-ordinate Minkey this season. Minkey runs from 10.30am am for about an hour every Saturday, except in school holidays. Please contact Bruce Carle at or 0400 888 785 if interested.

Kylies 1 are in desperate need of at least two players to play A Grade. If interested, contact Sarah Bathgate on 6642 2288 or Angela Hinterholzl on 6644 9144.

Apparently the gremlins invaded my paperwork last week. If you are considering coaching or managing one of the two under-15 rep teams, the actual date for the trip to Armidale is June 3-5.

Shelly Pole is trying to sell her goalie gear which is only six to seventh months old. Inquiries please phone 0488278269 or 66423361.

There is only two days to go before the season starts so start dieting today to fit into the lycra.

With the sand turf being replaced, most games will played on grass which will require different skills for trapping and dribbling. So if you are a bit rusty this week, just blame it on the grass.
