Impressive North Coastal team finishes third

JNR CRICKET: A valiant effort from North Coastal Zone's under-16 side, which featured Clarence Valley juniors Hayden Ensbey and Aidan Cahill, has earned the side a third place finish at the Bradman Cup carnival.

The North Coastal side finished the week-long tournament at Bathurst with an impressive record, only dropping one match to eventual champions Central Coast.

Cahill and Ensbey, who were both selected as bowlers for the North Coastal side, finished the tournament with three wickets apiece.

While he was happy to come away with the third-place finish, Ensbey said it was tough watching the competition slip through the team's fingers.

"Third is a good result, it sure is better than coming last,” he said. "We had that one game against Central Coast which was in the balance for most of the match, it was just the 50-50 moments didn't go our way.

"They went on to win the whole thing, to think that could have been us.”

Ensbey said he was happy with the way he bowled but felt he let himself down at one stage in the tournament.

"In the third game I just didn't do myself any favours with the ball,” he said. "I think a bit more practice beforehand is what I needed.

"But my focus was to help the team always.”
