Yamba Yabbies in good touch

THE Yamba Open Women's touch team has enjoyed the perfect preparation ahead of the State Cup.

The Yabbies were crowned champions at the North West Games in Armidale at the weekend after downing the hosts 5-0 in the final.

The Open Women's side was one of four Yamba Touch Football Association teams that attended the second staging of the annual touch tournament.

The Open Men, led by captain-coach Kris Thomsen, finished third after losing to Tamworth in the finals.

Yamba also fielded two teams in the Open Mixed competition. Yamba Mixed 1 finished fifth to narrowly miss out on a place in the finals while Yamba Mixed 2 finished eighth overall.

The talent of the Yamba players did not go unnoticed with many asked to trial for the Northern Eagles representative team to play in the National Touch League at Coffs Harbour in March.
