Inquiry open to ideas on dams

AN inquiry into NSW water storage is likely to look closely at four previously touted dams - Lachlan River near Carcoar, Fish River near Oberon, Welcome Reef (Shoalhaven River) near Braidwood and Mole River near Tenterfield, according to the inquiry's head, NSW Upper House MP Rick Colless.

Mr Colless, a Nationals MLC, is the chairman of the NSW Standing Committee on State Development which is conducting the inquiry.

Submissions to the inquiry remain open until August 31 and so far none have been received about any diversion plans for the Clarence River.

Mr Collis said it was notable that none of the dams on the radar were located on the state's "northern coastal rivers".
