International alert issued for 'White Widow' fugitive

A WOMAN nicknamed the "White Widow" by authorities is on the run with Interpol issuing a worldwide alert - a red notice - in relation to the terrorist attack on a Kenyan shopping centre.

Teams are now scouring the remnants of the Westgate plaza in Nairobi where at least 67 are believed to be dead.

The centre was occupied for four days by Al-Qaeda linked group Al-Shabaab after storming the complex on Saturday with grenades and machine guns.

Samantha Lewthwaite, 29, is the widow of Germaine Lindsay, one of four bombers involved in the July 7 attacks on London in 2005 which killed 52 and injured hundreds.

Ms Lewthwaite, also known as Natalie Webb, is wanted by Kenya over allegations of possessing explosives and "conspiracy to commit a felony" from 2011.

In a statement from Interpol, Secretary General Ronald Noble said Kenya had activated "a global tripwire" for the fugitive.
