Is Merrin one to bring title to foot of the mountain?

COULD Trent Merrin's signature at the Panthers be the missing link to the club's premiership puzzle?

The classy back-rower has committed to a three-year deal starting in 2016, which is reportedly worth a cool $750,000 a season.

General manager of the Panthers, Phil Gould, certainly thinks the Dragons and New South Wales star is worth the money, the 25-year-old to join fellow former Dragon Jamie Soward at the foot of the mountains.

"This is one of the most significant player signings this club has made in its 49 year history," Gould said in a statement.

"Trent has been part of a (Dragons) premiership-winning team and already achieved 10 State of Origin appearances for NSW."

Already boasting game-breakers Soward, Tyrone Peachey, Josh Mansour, Matt Moylan and Jamal Idris, Merrin's signing could deliver Penrith fans a long-awaited title.
