Cool start to the mornings around the Clarence this week

JUST as temperatures started to give the impression that spring was on its way, the mercury has plummeted to well below average and will stay that way this week.

Weatherzone meteorologist Sam Brown said minimum temperatures would rise slightly in coming days - but don't store your hot water bottle yet.

"It shouldn't be as cold although the next couple of mornings will be cool, probably about three degrees," Mr Brown said. "Yamba will be a little warmer."

The average minimum temperature for Grafton for August is 7.7 degrees. Yamba's August average is 10.5 degrees.

"It should last until around the weekend when it should start picking back up," Mr Brown said. Grafton and Yamba should remain dry for a week.

"The rainfall in Yamba is well below average so far. The total is 6.4mm and the average is 75.9mm," he said.

"Likewise in Grafton the total this month is only 2.6mm and the 1009-2012 average is 58.5mm."
