It's Movember and time to grow a stonking moustache
WITH November upon us most people associate the coming weeks with increasing temperatures, afternoon storms and fire restrictions but the guys from local band Mostaccio have something different on their mind.
"November is dead to me" says Mostaccio member Glen McClymont.
"It should officially be changed to Movember, a time for all men to not only grow a stonking moustache but more importantly register their efforts online and raise money and awareness for depression and prostate cancer initiatives. Its time to man up".
From humble beginnings in Melbourne in 2003, the Movember concept has grown to be a global force with the 2011 campaign raising close to $124 million with Mo Bros and Mo Sistas registering in over a dozen countries around the world.
For obvious reasons, Mostaccio has aligned itself with this initiative and is pushing the cause with a series of shows and local festival performances.
"I think we all know someone who has been affected by one of these unfortunate afflictions at one time or another. Movember is a fun, and might I add stylish, way to show your support to a great cause. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can register at the Movember website and help get the word out".
With Mostaccio planning an end of Movember "Celebration Of The Mo" party at The Naked Bean on Saturday, December 1 there is even more incentive to get on board.
They are also hosting a similar night in Bellingen the night before.
"We will be presenting awards for best Movember Mo, Best Dressed Mo Sista, An Encouragement Award and other things along those lines. It will be the 'must see event of 2012' with 100% of the door note donation going into the Movember pot," Glen.
"We are all bound to feel uncomfortable being surrounded by so many mo's but it is for a great initiative so it is a small price to pay".
