Douglas included in Greater Sydney development squad

JAKE Douglas' dream of a professional rugby career is one step closer to reality after his inclusion in the Greater Sydney Rams development squad.

Douglas was overlooked for a spot in the Rams squad for this year's National Rugby Championship but the Yamba product has earned the next best thing.

The Rams development squad will play the Waratahs under-20s twice this month, with the first game to be played at Brookvale on Tuesday.

Greater Sydney's development squad is dominated by players from the Parramatta Two Blues club with Douglas one of three Southern Districts players named in the side.

"I think they were a little late with the side," Douglas said.

"It's been a little rushed. I found out about a week and a half ago.

"We met on Monday, trained Tuesday night and have another session lined up tonight. That's it until we play the Tahs on Tuesday."

Douglas dived back into full-time work after he, brother Kane and fellow Yamba Buccaneer Jed Holloway played in Southern Districts' Shute Shield grand final loss.

Kane Douglas is aligned with NSW Country Eagles while Holloway captains the Rams' NRC side.

He's enjoyed the chance to relax and focus on work, but come Tuesday he'll be back and firing on the field.

"It's a weird mix of guys but the boys seem pretty cool," Douglas said of his Rams teammates.

"It opens the door to more opportunities. Our coach (Gerrard Fasavalu) seems like a pretty good guy."
