Alexa still overwhelmed after winning The Voice Kids

SHE'S the 10-year-old with a big voice that just blew everyone away.

Brisbane's Alexa is still overwhelmed after being voted the winner of Win's The Voice Kids Australia on Sunday night.

"Oh my goodness... I'm really happy," she said.

Her grandparents, who live in New Zealand, were waiting by the phone.

"When mum called them and told them the big news, they were screaming," Alexa said.

In the three-way public vote in the Grande Finale, Team Delta's Alexa beat Bella from Team Madden and Maddison from Team Mel for a $50,000 music scholarship and the title The Voice Kids Australia first ever winner.

All four coaches, Delta Goodrem, Mel B and Joel and Benji Madden, were wowed by her talent when she sang Alicia Key's Girl On Fire for the blind auditions.

The song showcased her voice and gave her the opportunity to push herself.

"I love challenges," she said.

And even though she had the pick of the three teams, Alexa said she felt like she had a connection with Delta.

"I listen to her music all the time and I just knew that she was the right one for me," she said.

Meeting and working with one of her music idols was "amazing".

"It was so much fun. She was so helpful and gave me tips and she's so humble," Alexa said.

The competition taught her two very important things: to smile and to have fun.

At the Grande Finale, she earned a thundering applause when she performed the theme song to Pocahontas Colours of the Wind by Vanessa Williams.

Alexa said the song was chosen by Delta.

"I think she knew that I have a lot of emotion in my singing," she said.

The 10-year-old said she'd been singing since she was three, but really started "getting into when" while watching Hi-5.

"That's when I kind of wanted to do singing," she said.

When she first saw The Voice Kids Australia advertised on television, she initially told her mum she didn't want to audition.

"I didn't think I was ready yet," she said.

But a few days later, she changed her mind and hasn't looked back.

She described the whole experience as "weird", but "so much fun".

At first she said it was "quite scary" performing in front of a live audience, but she quickly became more confident the further she progressed through the competition.

"For those who want to audition go for it... I just went in with no expectations and I won," she said.

"And go on Team Delta because she'll make your dreams come true."After being selected to represent Team Delta in a three-way public vote, Alexa continued to impress with a powerhouse performance of Mariah Carey's Hero.

During the battle rounds, Alexa and her fellow Team Delta singers Olivia and Anthony and Tamara faced off to perform the Spice Girls' Stop. Alexa then went through to the sing offs where she made another powerful performance of Girl On Fire.

The top six first performed a version of Pharrell Williams' Happy, joined by artists from the Voice Top 100. Alexa then followed this up with a mesmerising performance of Vanessa Williams' Colours of the Wind.

Each singer from the top six has won a trip to Disneyland Los Angeles for themselves and their families.
