OPINION: Joe takes aim at his foot

OPINION, David Moase - The DEX editor

SOMEBODY take the gun out of Joe Hockey's hands - at this rate he'll have no feet left to shoot.

The Federal Treasurer yesterday made a bumbling defence of property prices in Sydney, which rose more than 12% in 2014 and are continuing to head north.

While acknowledging the city's prices are expensive, he seemed to suggest all first home buyers needed to do to be able to get into the housing market was to go out and get a good job that pays well.

It's that simple. Why didn't anybody else think of that?

And why isn't everyone in Sydney working as merchant bankers or lawyers, and living in Vaucluse?

Things aren't complicated in Joe Hockey's world - unless it involves getting legislation through the Senate.

Remember last year's comment that poor people don't have cars and don't drive.

Now he tells us they don't have to battle with crippling mortgages; they just need to find a better job.

Thanks Joe.

With any more comments like that the Treasurer might soon find he is looking for another job too.
