Jones ready to go it alone as Demons captain

NATHAN Jones will be captain on his own at Melbourne this year after sharing the role with Jack Grimes last season.

But, Jones (pictured), who was confirmed as skipper yesterday, will be joined in the leadership group by a number of senior players.

Grimes is one of those, along with new recruit Heritier Lumumba from Collingwood, Lynden Dunn, ex-Bulldog Daniel Cross and former Magpie Chris Dawes.

Melbourne coach Paul Roos said the group now had players with experience of finals as well as ones who have gone through tough times with the Demons.

"I think it's a really good mix of guys that understand how difficult it has been, but also some guys who have had some real success who can continue to raise standards around here," he said.

Grimes decided to relinquish the co-captaincy role to concentrate on his game.
