Crowd rearing for July Carnival at launch

A LARGE crowd turned out for the official launch of the Grafton July Racing Carnival at the Grafton Regional Gallery on Saturday night.

The night, hosted by the Clarence River Jockey Club and Grafton Shoppingworld, provided an evening of festivities for the guests with socialising high on the agenda.

The annual Fashions of the Field fashion parade which has been a part of the launch since the introduction of the revamped Grafton Shoppingworld was again a hit with the crowd with many women, and men, taking note of the available fashions ahead of the carnival.

Grafton Shoppingworld marketing co-ordinator Chrystal Campbell said that working alongside the Clarence River Jockey Club had been a great success for the centre.

"This is our seventh year with the Cup doing Fashions of the Field so we are highly looking forward to being involved again this year," Ms Campbell said.

"The exposure that Shoppingworld and the businesses within get from the Carnival is amazing. The roll-up we get is really great."

CRJC executive officer Michael Beattie said he was pleased with the outcomes of the launch night but said it is now getting close to business time for the carnival.

"I am really happy with how the night has gone," he said.

"There has been a lot of people come along to enjoy the fashion parade.

"It is about launching the carnival and that cannot be done without the sponsors here. But the carnival is not all about racing, it is about the fashion as well and that has also been launched.

"We are about five weeks out from the first day of the carnival on Westlawn Day and we are really looking forward to a smashing carnival this year."
