Juniors get set for Bathurst event

GRAFTON’S Darcie Martin and Cassie Elward will represent North East Tennis in the under-12s age division in the Medibank Teams Championship in Bathurst this weekend.

Ashleigh Elward, from Grafton, will manage the North East boys team in Bathurst.

Twelve teams will compete for the Jan O’Neill and Tony Roche Cup, five metropolitan teams, six country teams and a presidents team.

Teams will consist of four players and an on-court manager.

The aim of the championships is to provide the State’s best 12-and-under players with first-class competition against players from across the state in an enjoyable team atmosphere, while introducing the educational aspect of on-court managers.

Matches will comprise of four singles matches and two doubles, with players participating in singles and doubles in each match.

Play-offs will commence on Sunday afternoon with all players involved.

Grafton District Tennis Association competition begins this weekend.

Good luck to all involved and have a great afternoon of tennis.

Last week the second round of the PSSA School tennis competition was played in Grafton with an experienced Grafton Public School playing a new up and coming Westlawn Public School.

It was a great day of tennis with exceptional sportsmanship shown by both teams.

Grafton Public School won the day by 8 sets to 0.

Grafton’s players, Josh Crispin, Eli Fahey, Izaiah Gilbert, Kaitlin Pardoe, Georgia Allen and Tianna McGarvie, will play the next round of the competition in the Mid North Coast District.

Junior tennis players from Junction Hill Tennis Club and Maclean Tennis Club are having an interclub challenge on Sunday, April 10.

Maclean will host the challenge with 16 players from each club playing in a round-robin event. Junction Hill are out to defend their title from last year.
