Grafton product to line up for Sydney Sixers
KARA Sutherland will return to Sydney to reunite with some of her old team mates as part of the Sydney Sixers for the inaugural Women's Big Bash League season.
Hailing from Grafton, Sutherland joined Queensland Fire this season after playing for the NSW Breakers since 2010.
But she will pull on the magenta for the shortened format of the game in the first season of the WBBL.
The tall left-arm quick will add some fire to the Sixers bowling unit and joins fellow quicks Ellyse Perry and Emily Leys in what is shaping as a formidable bowling line up.
"To sign with the Magenta team is always what I wanted to do if we ever had a Women's Big Bash League," Sutherland said.
"Sydney's a great city. The colour of the team helped and I guess the rest of the squad that we have was the major drawcard to play for the Sixers. "I think we've got a really strong squad. We've got some good all-rounders, an excellent wicket keeper in Alyssa Healy, a quality coach and girls that all get along really well."
Sixers head coach Ben Sawyer said Sutherland's experience will add to the team make up.
"Kara has had a number of seasons in WNCL and Women's T20 competitions for the NSW Breakers," Sawyer said.
"We are confident she will be able to assert herself on this competition."
Sixers general manager Dom Remond said Sutherland would play a crucial role in the team.
"Her ability to take wickets is a great benefit in the T20 format," Remond said.
