Kerr honoured with Maclean High's Sportsperson of Year award

MACLEAN High School's outstanding sporting achievements were recognised at the school's recent presentation night.

Samantha Kerr, who represented the North Coast in touch football and athletics, was named Sportsperson of the Year.

Nirvarna Makings represented the school in three sports and collected the trophy for Senior Netballer of the Year.

Luke Roberts also represented in multiple sports and gained selection in the National Indigenous Lloyd McDermott Under-16 Rugby Union team.

The NSW Premiers Sporting Challenge Medal is one of the school's most prestigious awards and acknowledges outstanding commitment and fair play.

Year 10 student Chianna Dane, who represented Maclean High in swimming, netball, water polo, touch football, rowing, athletics, hockey and AFL was this year's recipient.

Swimmer Jesse-Clare Beresford has represented North Coast in all her six years at high school and she continued the streak this year, reaching finals at the NSW CHS Swimming Championships.

She leaves behind an incredible legacy with her name appearing 22 times on the school's record sheet.

Year 8 student Mekeely Heron did well on the track, winning a silver medal in the 100m at NSW CHS Athletics Carnival.

Bethany Hickey took bronze in the NSW All Schools 15 years 3000m while Charlie Munro finished second in the 16-years javelin.

Carly Lesson was the recipient of the Lance Tims Perpetual Trophy for Most Outstanding Senior Cricketer in 2013 and was recently named in the NSW Schoolgirls Honour and Australian Honorary Under-15 teams.
