Key Swans pair ruled out of clash

SYDNEY'S chances of upsetting Fremantle in Saturday night's preliminary final in Perth have taken a dive.

Coach John Longmire confirmed yesterday that forward Kurt Tippett and midfielder Tom Mitchell had been ruled out of the clash.

Tippett, substituted in the first quarter in last Saturday's win over Carlton, has strained a ligament at the top of his fibula, while Mitchell injured his ankle in the same game and will have an operation in coming days.

Longmire said Tippett could be available for Saturday week's grand final if the Swans beat the Dockers who were installed $1.25 favourites yesterday.
