Quarter of Valley parks "unserviceable"

MORE than a quarter of the 62 children's playgrounds in the Clarence Valley are unserviceable, says a consultant's report to go before Clarence Valley Council this afternoon.

Council commissioned Kico Inspection & Testing Services to test all its playgrounds.

The report prepared for today's meeting concluded that unless the 16 unserviceable playgrounds were either closed off or removed, council could be subject to litigation if someone using the equipment was injured.

The unserviceable sites are:

  •  Bob Liddiard Park, South Grafton.(vandalised beyond repair).
  •  Calypso Caravan Park, Yamba; (Corrosion, entrapment, free fall of height)

  •  Coledale Community Centre, Coaldale; (Corrosion, no soft fall)
  •  Figtree Ave Reserve, Junction Hill; (Corrosion, no soft fall, playground has been fenced off for 18 months)
