Kruithof guilty of Tweed man's murder

DALLIN James Kruithof will be sentenced to life in jail after being found guilty of murdering Tweed man Russell Johnstone.

Members of Mr Johnstone's family were in tears as the jury announced its verdict.

Kruithof pleaded not guilty at the Brisbane Supreme Court to shooting Mr Johnstone in the eastern Brisbane suburb of Tingalpa.

Mr Johnstone was found with bullet wounds to his head and back in the early hours of February 6, 2014. He was rushed to hospital where he died.

Kruithof will also be sentenced on drug trafficking charges and illegally possessing weapons. He faces a mandatory life sentence for murder.

The sentence will take place at a date to be fixed.
