Kyogle and Richmond Valley councils approve gas convoy

KYOGLE and Richmond Valley councils have approved permits for a heavy vehicle convoy to use Bentley Road to access Metgasco's Rosella gas test drilling site at Bentley.

The convoy is expected to travel from Grafton along the Summerland Way, through the Richmond Valley into the Kyogle local government area, and then turn into Bentley Rd.

Kyogle Council General Manager Arthur Piggott said council staff saw no grounds to refuse the permit applications under the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator guidelines.

Mr Piggott said if council did refuse the applications, they could have been overturned by Roads and Maritime Services.

Trucking company Heavy Haulage Australia must seek permission from the RMS for the OSOM (over size/ over mass) trucks to use the Summerland Way.

It is not yet known when the convoy plans to hit the road on the way to Bentley.
