Kyrgios bows out in Mexico semi-finals

A DAY after conquering world No.2 Novak Djokovic to reach the semi-finals of the Mexican Open, Australian Nick Kyrgios has been knocked out by Sam Querrey.

Playing for a place in the final against Rafael Nadal, Kyrgios won the first set but ultimately fell to the unseeded American 3-6 6-1 7-5.

The sixth-seeded Kyrgios required treatment on his elbow at the end of the second set.

Nadal made the final after beating Croatia's Marin Cilic 6-1 6-2.

"It does not get any easier tomorrow, it will be the toughest test," Querrey said after beating Kyrgios.

"I played great today, but I need to play even better tomorrow to beat Nadal."
