LOSING rider Kasie Stanley suggested: "He'll be better for the run," after odds-on favourite ($1.80) Lucky Meteor was narrowly beaten by Yupik in the Summer Dash (1002m) at Grafton yesterday.

"He just knocked up the last bit and wanted to lay in," the apprentice told owners Brian and Betty Paine.

Lucky Meteor's second placed finish in its first race start since September 27 ended a six-race win streak.

Trainer John Shelton was circumspect in his assessment.

"Wasn't good enough," was his short summation.

Is there improvement there?

"I hope so," he replied. "He'd trialled up well. The better horse got him on the day."
