LCCA CRICKET: Lawrence robbed by rain

LCCA CRICKET: Lawrence first grade cricket team feels like it can't win a trick at the moment after its game against Maclean United was washed out on Saturday.

Club stalwart Anthony Tory said the washout, after the team scored 7/160, was a wasted opportunity for his team in the Lower Clarence Cricket Competition.

"Last week we bowled the premiers, Wanderers, out for 79 and fell a couple short," Tory said.

"This time our batsman did the job for us and we didn't get the opportunity to follow through."

Tory said the team was confident its bowling attack could defend 160.

"If you look at our performances in recent seasons, it's been our bowlers who have been the most consistent," he said.

Tory said the feature of the innings was the opening partnership between the powerful Brett O'Connor (35) and teenager Rhys Watterson (40).

"They really complemented each other," Tory said. "Brett typically played his big shots, while Rhys knocked the ball around to turn over the strike."

In the other game Iluka's spinner Aidan Daniels destroyed the Harwood lower, taking 6/18 and bundling them out for 127 at Harwood Oval.

With Geoff Simmons 36 and his brother Darryl, 28, opening up, Harwood looked in control when the the first wicket fell at 62.

But the innings went downhill rapidly after teenager Josh Lane removed both openers.

Daniels came on with his flighted off-breaks and wickets tumbled.

"If Ken Richards, 29, hadn't batted so well down the order we might have got them for under 100," said Iluka captain Dave Cowan.
