Leg-spinner ready to strike for Black Caps in final ODI

CRICKET: Australia will get another taste of Ish Sodhi in the third and final one-day international against Australia.

The leg-spinner who dominated in his brief appearance for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League has been called back into the New Zealand squad.

The 24-year-old replaces unused wicketkeeper Tom Blundell in the squad for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy decider at a spin-friendly Seddon Park on Sunday.

Sodhi struggled in his 13 previous ODIs but claimed took 6-11 for the Strikers against the Sydney Thunder in Adelaide.

Larsen said Eden Park and Napier's McLean Park, where the second match was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Thursday, would not have suited Sodhi.

"History shows that the Seddon Park pitch can be spin friendly and for that reason Ish has been brought into the squad,” Larsen said.

"We wanted the option of two specialist spinners for this match and it's a venue that Ish has had some success on in the past.”

Opener Martin Guptill is battling to be fit for the game due to a hamstring strain, with Dean Brownlie on standby.

"Martin has made progress in the last couple of days, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be available for selection. At this stage it's probably 50-50,” Larsen said.
