Lessons from their heroes

GRAFTON Netball hosted a big weekend with a jam-packed Sunday on top of the usual Saturday games.

Coaches took on new accreditation and players learnt new skills and drills from NSW Swifts shooter Susan Pratley and defensive player Abbey McCulloch.

The duo held a three-hour clinic with 50 excited kids aged seven to 14. It's hoped the participants take what they learnt and show their teammates.

After the session both ladies took time to sign autographs and pose for copious numbers of pictures. Thanks, Susan and Abbey, for taking the time to meet these country kids.

The Development Coaching Course also took place on Sunday. All those who attended agreed it was a highly beneficial and informative experience.

Grafton now has five coaches ready to put new skills into practice: Alex Sheiles, Kim Blinman, Donna Jackson, Rhee Searle and Cyndi Allen.

All-Age Carnival nominations are open until August 4. Those interested in nominating a team for the August 10 carnival, see control on Saturday or email grafton.netball@bigpond.com or leave a message on our Facebook page. For ages 10 years to Open, cost per team is $30 to be paid on the day.

Any umpires unavailable let Alex (0416 431 343) know as it is easier to change before the draw is finalised.

Umpiring can be rewarding when you try your best, as most umpires do.

Please remember to umpire how you would like the umpire to perform when you are playing.

A reminder if your team forfeits or you play against a forfeited team, you still need to perform your umpiring duty or pay the umpire who did this duty for you.

The State League team is starting training for the trip to Sydney on September 27-28 to contest the State League Inter-Region finals.

The girls hope to play a few carnivals to help prepare for the big weekend which will consist of six fully timed games over the two days.

Those interested in trialling for our 12yr to 17yr 2015 rep teams need to watch for times to be advertised soon.

Dates are August 31 and September 7, with final selections on Wednesday October 22.

Training for all squads will be Wednesdays until final teams are selected, then each coach will decide training days.

If Wednesdays are unsuitable, advise squad coaches and we will try to resolve the issue. Don't let this deter you from trialling for your team.

The ladder has been updated to show current results, so be sure to check out where your team is standing in the competition.
