Letter to the Editor - Friday, May 9: Taxing for ratepayers

THE little township of Maclean, where small business hangs on by the skin of its teeth, is about to be hit with higher petrol taxes, higher medical charges, etc.

Now on top of all of this Maclean is about to receive an increase of 5.6% on rates, and we haven't been told about water and electricity increases as yet.

This has all been brought about since the amalgamation of councils along with the elections of Conservative state and federal governments which refuse to adequately fund local councils because the voting power base is in the cities.
