Letter to the Editor - Thursday, May 8: Help appreciated

ON April 4 I was trying to erect a sunshade outside Iluka post office when a kind gentleman came to my help.

He managed to get the screwed end partially into the hard ground, then he left and returned within five minutes with an aluminium rod attached to a steel spear, a piece of wood and a hammer.

He then proceeded to hammer the spear into the ground and, presto, I had a great holder for the sunshade. I thanked him and asked what would I do with the gadget when I was leaving. He replied: "Keep it for the next time".

I enjoyed two hours talking with the lovely Iluka residents, and when it came to leave I couldn't close the sunshade, but a nice young lass came to my help.

People ask me why do I stay here in Iluka and I always say it's because of the friendly residents. My sincere thanks to both my helpers.

Doreen Cupitt,
Iluka
