Letter to the Editor-Wednesday, November 27: GST on the rise

WE WERE told that there would be no increase in the GST, now we find with the release of an article by Jessica Irvine, national economic editor of News Corp Australia (Daily Telegraph) about a report by the "Grattan Institute" titled "Broadening the GST to fresh food, health, education, child care, water and sewerage revealed by a new analysis."

This comes after a so called "iron clad guarantee" by Tony Abbott that the GST would not be touched but after the election on Sept 7 Joe Hockey stated that everything would "be on the table" and now it is with all of the "hurt and pain" to be inflicted on those who elected them.

These two individuals had planned it all along and are now going to hide behind the requests of the Coalition state governments by blaming them.

After sending several letters to various news outlets, where it fell on deaf ears, we now have it being highlighted and showing just how big a lie was perpetrated by Abbott and Hockey.
