Letter to the Editor - Tuesday, May 20: Hickory trickery

Congratulations to Skye Blake on her excellent letter defending the pecan trees in the grounds of Grafton Public School. (DEX 16/). It takes a Year 9 high school student to tell it how it is.

One aspect of these trees that has not been mentioned yet is that these trees belong to the hickory group of trees found in North America.

They are a particularly stable tree with a tough resilient timber. They will come through a severe storm unscathed.

The worst bit of vandalism that could beset the pecan trees in the school ground was to lop them. But, as Skye wrote, surely some can be saved.
