Yamba lifesavers prepare for memorial event
THE Yamba Surf Life Saving Club's fourth annual Jacob Lollback Memorial Board Race Day is expected to draw a record entry of entries.
Organiser Jim Dougherty, who is also club surf sports director and competition gear steward, said the event remembers the outstanding surf life saver and competitor Jacob Lollback who drowned on September 22, 2009.
Strong teams are expected from Gold Coast clubs Kurrawa, Burleigh Heads, Surfers Paradise, Northcliffe and Tugun while local starters can nominate on the race sheet on the club notice board.
Mr Dougherty said the six major sponsors - Kracka Surfcraft, Dolphin Surfcraft, Xcel Surfcraft, Infront Surfcraft, Finz Swimwear and the Pacific Hotel - have signed on again with four new racing boards to be given away in lucky draws to eligible competitors.
There is a number of other important sponsors and an opportunity for other businesses and individuals to become involved by contacting Cathy Dougherty on 0432 227 349.
Jim Dougherty (0428664701) needs a large contingent of members to carry out the many jobs - beach set-up, tent erection, traffic control, entries, competitor numbering, marshalling, result recording, water safety, raffle ticket sales, barbecue and bar tenders involved in conducting a successful event.
The Jacob Lollback board races and the annual ocean swims on Sunday, September 28 are highlights of the 2013-14 season which gets underway in five weeks with the first patrols on Main Beach on Saturday, September 21.
