Light pole blows onto powerlines, causes outages at Yamba

ESSENTIAL Energy is working to clear a light pole which has fallen onto powerlines at Yamba.

Traffic has been blocked in both directions on River St, and a crane is on scene preparing to remove the pole from the powerlines.

Yamba Fire and Rescue Captain David Woods said they received reports a light pole from the golf club's car park, on the corner of River and Beach St, had blown onto the powerlines about 10.50am.

Wind gusts of up to 52km/hour were recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology around 10am.

Two of the powerlines have been severed, which has reportedly caused power outages in parts of Yamba.
