ROLAND Smith and John Ibbotson are excited because they can see the near-completion of a labour of love of restoring Yamba's replica lighthouse.

Both men love lighthouses and are volunteering their time to help Yamba man Howard Hall achieve his dream of seeing the replica of the original Yamba lighthouse operational.

They have been working on the lantern room which was donated by Australian Maritime Systems and arrived from South Neptune Island.

The fibreglass and aluminium roof will be placed in a temporary position by a crane on top of the lighthouse building so that the markings can be taken for the permanent fixture.

Roland has been specifically preparing and painting the lantern room while John, who has pub- lished a couple books on lighthouses, has been responsible for locating some of the necessary lighthouse parts to complete the replica project.
