Lions face battle to get Black back

RETIRED Brisbane Lions champion Simon Black has been swamped with coaching offers less than a week after pulling the pin on his distinguished career.

The Lions have offered Black (pictured) a three-year deal as an assistant to new coach and former teammate Justin Leppitsch but it appears they could have a fight on their hands to secure the services of the 322-game midfielder.

The Gold Coast Suns have said they would like the Brownlow medallist as a coach at the club, while the Sydney Swans have also made an offer. It is also believed the Eagles are interested in luring Black to Western Australia.

Black, 34, is on holiday in Perth for another week visiting family and taking time out to decide on his future.

Leppitsch said he expected a decision from Black in the next couple of weeks.

"It's going to be up to Simon whether he wants to leave the state to chase his coaching dreams originally or have his first three years at the Lions," he said.

Black's former coach Leigh Matthews has encouraged his former charge to spread his coaching wings.
