Lisa keen to run for Showgirl
PUTTING her hand up for the 2012 Grafton Showgirl Competition was only natural for Lower Southgate lass Lisa Green.
It is no surprise really, given the bubbly 22-year-old has lived her whole life on the land and has taken part in just about every Grafton Show for as long as she can remember.
"I've been tossing up whether or not to do it for a few years and I thought this year was the year to do it.
"I knew if I didn't have a go I'd regret it later," Lisa said.
Lisa splits her time between her job as a bartender and receptionist at the Grafton District Services Club and studying for a business degree through Southern Cross University.
However, the career she has her heart set on is something different again.
"I actually want to be a NSW police officer one day and hopefully get posted back here in this area," she said.
"I'm in the midst of the application process at the moment, so I'm hoping I'm successful."
For now though, Lisa has thrown herself into her bid to become the 2012 Grafton Showgirl. She has competed in show-riding events at the show ever since she's been able to hold the reins and said she had fond memories of the annual event.
"I've been involved in the Show for such a long time and I think being in the Showgirl competition is a great way to give back to the community and the Show society," Lisa said.
"It's also going to be a great chance to see the Show from a totally different angle."
She said it wasn't going to be easy though. At a meet-and-greet session earlier this week Lisa said she was facing some stiff competition from the other Showgirl candidates.
"I definitely wouldn't like to be the one choosing the winner," she said with a chuckle.
The winner of the 2012 Grafton Showgirl competition will be announced in the main ring at Grafton Showground from 2pm next Saturday.
