Littles proud of Spar Maclean grand re-opening

AFTER extensive renovations, SPAR Maclean has presented itself as a modern shopping option and kept its heritage as Australia's longest-running store. Owner Bob Little threw a grand re-opening on Saturday to celebrate.

"We're calling it our grand re-opening, not that we have ever closed," Mr Little said.

The expanded store provides a larger and less cluttered shopping area with more products

Mr Little said because it was Australia's longest running store they tried to keep its heritage when renovating.

"We have to balance a modern image, but looking like our heritage," he said.

"If you say you are the longest-running store in Australia you have to look like it. You don't people coming and seeing a modern, concrete building."

Mr Little said he was blown away with the renovations.

"It's something that I've needed to do for a long time," he said.

"We have had nothing but glowing comments from the customers.

"We can't wait to celebrate the completion of this refurbishment with our valued customers and industry colleagues.

"I'm very appreciative of all the staff over the last six months. We did not close while renovating, which was a big burden on the staff."

Amsterdam-based SPAR International CEO Gordon Campbell attended the event.

"The unique history of SPAR Maclean, combined with the way they epitomise the SPAR ideals, make this celebration one worth travelling for," Dr Campbell said.

Mr Little said Dr Campbell had visited the store once before.

"Dr Campbell heard so much about our store," Mr Little said.

"On that visit he gave me some advice on how to improve. I completed all the things he suggested, so I will proud to show him that."
